For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord. – Proverbs 8:35
What does it take to convince you to buy a particular house or car? What about a coat, a pair of jeans, a specific pair of shoes? Advertisers spend trillions of dollars alluring, drawing attention, catching your eye, all in hopes of convincing you that what they are offering is worth your taking.
It is a common practice: offer a great product, then deliver more than your competitor. Sometimes, in the demand simply to sell, some over promise what they could never imagine delivering. Both lead to skepticism and mistrust.
In today’s Proverb, God declares the benefits of wisdom. Look & listen to His offer:
To the simple, wisdom gives prudence.
To the foolish, wisdom gives understanding.
Wisdom is more valuable than silver or gold, more precious than rubies, there is nothing compared to wisdom.
Wisdom offers truth, justice, faultless knowledge.
Wisdom provides counsel, sound judgment, and power.
With wisdom, kings and princes reign.
Those who seek wisdom find it.
For those who love wisdom, the love is returned. Wealth is bestowed on those who love wisdom and their banks and closets are full.
Wow, wisdom is priceless! Who wouldn’t want wisdom and all her benefits? Who wouldn’t seek it?
Wisdom … existing as the first of God’s works. Appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world was created (v. 23). Before the oceans, before the mountains, before the hills, rivers, deserts and dust, wisdom existed.
Blessed are those who keep the ways of wisdom.
Blessed is the man who listens, watches, and waits for wisdom.
Did you catch that simple statement there at the top of the page?
Whoever finds wisdom finds LIFE and receives FAVOR from the Lord.
All of humanity yearns to find the meaning of life, the purpose of life, the fullness life might give; and there it is. Wisdom leads to life.
And to top the cake off with extraordinary icing, beyond the fullness of life comes the favor of God. The Creator’s power and providence accompany wisdom. The Savior’s presence and peace come in this packaged deal. Whatever you believe favor might be, it comes as an additive to those who find wisdom and experience life.
Ask yourself today, “What would it take to pursue wisdom?” “What must I do to get this indescribable item from heaven?”
Do what Solomon did and start by asking for it. Then as wisdom comes, follow its ways and do not turn from it. You will be on the road to life with God’s favor fueling your steps.
Father God, I want to experience the fullness of life. Your Word indicates that finding wisdom starts me on that path. Today, guide my thoughts and ways. I ask that you give me wisdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.
